This two-day entertainment was comprised of several dance recitals, presentation of Tagore poems & songs in classic form and chamber music style, and a rendition of modern Bengali folk. Additional key feature of this year’s event was an Art Gallery showcasing artists from the community and a handicraft display by Ms. Ruma Acharya. Further spicing up the proceedings was a Food Fest featuring various culinary offerings. Finally, this year we honored the winners of the Annual Tagore Essay Contest for Houston High School Seniors. Particular highlights were the attendance at the event by the Mr. & Mrs. N. K. Ghai, the Consul and Vice Consul of India and Hon. Sanjeev Arora, the Consul General of India, on the 10th and 11th respectively. Last but not the least, the Tagore Society humbly acknowledges the bountiful help and support of many in the community for making this program a success. For Detailed Program Summary, click here
The Primary Vision of Tagore Society of Houston (TSH) is to promote Tagore’s words & works, and his philosophy of a BORDERLESS WORLD. This we aim to do by popularizing the timelessness and transcendental spirituality of Tagore’s thoughts and philosophy, as expressed through his poems, songs, writings, plays, lectures and art. We seek to broaden the appeal of his message by reaching out to the larger community and showcasing art and art forms from a variety of sources and artists. It is with this vision that we present to you Barnali 2009. A key feature of this year’s event is the Art Gallery showcasing artists from the community and Food Fest featuring various culinary styles. This year we are also honoring the winners of the Annual Tagore Essay Contest for Houston High School Seniors. Special Thanks are due to the HDBS Ex. Committee and its members for extending their support and cooperation to TSH, and co-sponsoring the Vishwa Bharati Group performance, to Rajiv Saha for masterminding the sound system and to Arun Niyogi for keeping up with the many website changes.Â
